Jeddah enjoyed a real super rainy December 2010 and January 2011, and also we had a rain in March 2011, that all helped to turn the desert green, by late March yellow flowers started to show, and it was a feast for all the migrants that come at this time for the Spring migration. Wheatears are usually the stars of the March migration in the desert, one can easily see 5 different types of wheatears, the Northern ones usually are the ones that come with larger numbers.
at April the 4th 2011 i had a fabulous morning with this handsome male, usually i am more lucky with the females, that was one of the most photogenic males i have encountered.
These very elegant shrikes are very rare visitors to the urban areas, but can be easily seen in desert patches. and can be quite friendly. a few number of them also stay all winter also.
These shots were taken, 23/04/2010, with Olympus E 620 + Sigma 50-500mm, f 13, at ISO 500.All images are uncropped.
